There is this cute little girl Anya who goes to my church that looks just like the blonde Bitty. I'm thinking about getting Anya the blonde Bitty Baby but Anya is only 18 months old and I'm not sure if she would take good care of the doll or not. I'm sure Anya would love to have a doll that looks like her but there are two problems: I don't want her family to blame me for her possible AG obsession(LOL!), and I'm not really sure someone her age could take care of a doll. Do you guys have any suggestions?

In my opinion there is not much a child of that age can do to harm Bitty Baby. It is a nice sturdy doll - easy to carry around and unless she writes on it - pretty indestructable.
As for your other concern of starting a life long obession - well we all know that AG is a slippery slope - but a worthwile one!
I would say go ahead!

Well-loved baby dolls just make my heart melt, so I may not be the most objective opinion. But, I just LOVE the new Bitty stuff - I'd go for it. If her mother doesn't want her to have it right away, she can put it on display in her room for a few months or so.

My Mae will be two in November, she has had her Bitty since last Jan. She plays with her baby when she wants, but Bitty goes back into her box between playtimes.Mae is very gentle and loving with her babies. If her parents will guide her just a little, I bet she will do fine.
Mae also has a Samantha that stays out all of the time. She loves her Samantha very much! She is sooo careful with her, and she really enjoys playing with her.

I think I better talk it over with Anya's mom first just in case she doesn't think it is a good idea just yet.

Our daughters were never into 'baby' dolls. They say kids are into baby dolls, or barbies rarely both, or stuffed animals. I'd ask her parents if she has a 'baby' and if so, how attached to it is she? She might not want a replacement if it's her security item.
Will she take care of it...no, don't expect her to, she's too little.

DD got her Bitty Baby at 2 1/2. She is like a member of the family. I'm thinking of giving one to the little sister of one of DD's friends. I love a little girl with a special doll! Let us know what you decide.

My DD got her Bitty Baby for her second birthday. She has taken very good care of her and she still looks great today (almost 7 years later). I think it really depends on the child on whether or not they are able to play nicely with the dolls. I also think it would be a good idea to talk the gift idea over with her parents! - Meg B.

Whether a small child can "take care" of a doll like an AG doesn't depend on the child.
It depends on the parents, and if they teach a respect for special things like AGs/Bittys. because to me, any doll that costs as much as an AG deserves a bit of respect as I don't feel they're "ordinary" playthings. Yes, play with them, love them - but they're not dolls you drag around in the dirt and make mudpies with.
My nieces have had their Bittys for five and four years, and they are well loved but in great condition. My nieces also each have an AG and they are now six and almost seven years old. Their AGs are played with a bit differently because they were taught from the beginning these dolls are a bit more special than others.
I would possibly check with Anya's mom, but if you get the OK, I say go for it. (I would check to ensure Grandma or someone else special hasn't already requested it - and if they have, pitch in with an outfit for Bitty.)
